Celebrate Biodiversity - Environment Day 2020

The environment where we live is important for our survival and there is a need to protect
it. Every year, we celebrate Environment Day on June 5 focusing on present environmental
issues all over the world for encouraging the people to protect the environment. It is organized
by the United Nations, who celebrated it for the first time in 1972 by the UN General assembly,
during the first day of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment. This year we
are celebrating it to connect ourselves with nature under the slogan "Time for Nature". The
theme acknowledges the nature of providing essential services for life on Earth and human
development. The world today is under the pandemic of COVID-19. The outside world today
has become a threat for humankind, whereas; nature is breathing the fresh air at the
same moment. The environment is better and cleaner than before. We humans, take everything
as granted which are available in nature. Let's take the example of water, air, animals, etc. The
Environment Day is thus celebrated to remind about the environment, nature and their
components not to take as granted. There is a need to understand the nature and the wise use
of resources.

For this year 2020, the theme of Environment Day is "Celebrate Biodiversity". It is a time to
concern on protecting our biodiversity as human alone cannot survive a single day. The food we
eat and the healthy physical environment where we live in the product of biodiversity. The
concern is urgent because the loss of biodiversity has the ultimate effect on humans. Millions of
animals are on the verge of extinction. The ecosystem we live in is healthy and protected by
biodiversity. And, biodiversity is also linked with our culture and identity.
